How it works

From request to trainer in three steps

K9PN is a referral service. We do not train dogs. Trainers set their own prices and programs.

1. Tell us what you need

Share your dog's age and breed, whether you want board and train, 1-on-1 sessions or virtual training (Florida only for now), and where you live. It takes about two minutes and costs nothing.

2. We match you with a trainer

K9PN is a referral service. Based on what you need and where you live, we refer your request to a professional trainer who offers it.

3. The trainer calls you back

The trainer calls you to talk through your goals, pricing and scheduling. You decide whether it is a fit.

Signs of separation anxiety

  • Howling, barking or whining when you leave.
  • Destroying doors, crates or windows.
  • Accidents indoors in a house-trained dog.
  • Drooling, panting or pacing as you get ready to leave.

Some of these also happen from boredom or lack of training, so a trainer will look at the full picture.

What helps

  • Gradual practice with very short absences.
  • Predictable routines and plenty of exercise.
  • Calm, confident departures and arrivals.
  • Talking to your vet, since medication can help some dogs.

What to avoid

Punishing a dog for what it did while panicked makes anxiety worse. Leaving the dog alone for long periods before it is ready can set back progress. Be wary of promises of a quick fix.

Board and train or 1-on-1?

Separation anxiety is about being alone at home, so 1-on-1 coaching usually fits best. A trainer shows you how to build tolerance step by step in your own house. Some programs add boarding for practice, but ask how the dog is handled.

How we match you with a trainer

K9PN is not a franchise and not a directory where anyone can pay to be listed. We refer dog owners to experienced, independent trainers, and we look at the things that decide whether training works in real life:

  • Real experience. How long the trainer has worked with dogs, what kinds of dogs and problems, and whether the person who trains your dog is the experienced trainer or a junior hire.
  • Where your dog actually lives. A dog that spends the program in a crowded kennel room or a stack of crates does not learn to settle in a normal home. We favor trainers who keep few dogs and train in realistic settings.
  • Training in the real world. Walks, public places, visitors and house rules, not only drills in one room.
  • You are part of it. Lessons at pickup and follow-up, so the results last once your dog is home.

Common questions

Can separation anxiety be cured?

Many dogs improve a lot with a structured plan and patience. Progress is gradual and depends on the dog and how consistently you practice.

Will a crate help?

For some dogs, yes. For others, a crate makes panic worse. A trainer or vet can tell you which, and how to introduce one safely.

Should I talk to my vet?

Yes. Your vet can rule out medical causes and discuss whether medication could help while you train.

Is it separation anxiety or boredom?

They can look alike. Anxious dogs show panic signs even with exercise and toys. A trainer can help tell the difference.

Is K9PN a dog training company?

No. K9PN is a referral service and does not train dogs. We pass your request to a professional trainer we work with who offers the kind of training you asked for and serves your area. It costs you nothing to send a request, and you decide whether to work with the trainer who calls you.
