How it works

From request to trainer in three steps

K9PN is a referral service. We do not train dogs. Trainers set their own prices and programs.

1. Tell us what you need

Share your dog's age and breed, whether you want board and train, 1-on-1 sessions or virtual training (Florida only for now), and where you live. It takes about two minutes and costs nothing.

2. We match you with a trainer

K9PN is a referral service. Based on what you need and where you live, we refer your request to a professional trainer who offers it.

3. The trainer calls you back

The trainer calls you to talk through your goals, pricing and scheduling. You decide whether it is a fit.

What reactivity looks like

Barking, lunging, growling or frantic behavior on leash when a dog sees another dog, a runner, a bike or a stranger. Many reactive dogs are fearful, frustrated or overexcited, not aggressive. A trainer will look at what triggers your dog and why.

How a good trainer approaches it

  • Evaluation first. Triggers, distance, body language and history.
  • Threshold work. Practicing under the point where your dog reacts and slowly closing the gap.
  • Management. Leash, gear, routes and routines so your dog is not set up to fail.
  • Skills for both of you. Engagement, focus and a calm reset you can use on walks.
  • Honest expectations. Many dogs improve a lot. Some need lifelong management.

Be careful with

Programs that promise a cure, flood your dog with triggers or use harsh corrections that suppress warnings without changing how the dog feels. Ask what methods and tools are used and why, and ask to see how sessions work.

Board and train or 1-on-1?

It depends. Some dogs make progress away from home, but you need training in handling too. 1-on-1 lessons teach you to manage walks and situations yourself. Ask the trainer how the handoff works.

How we match you with a trainer

K9PN is not a franchise and not a directory where anyone can pay to be listed. We refer dog owners to experienced, independent trainers, and we look at the things that decide whether training works in real life:

  • Real experience. How long the trainer has worked with dogs, what kinds of dogs and problems, and whether the person who trains your dog is the experienced trainer or a junior hire.
  • Where your dog actually lives. A dog that spends the program in a crowded kennel room or a stack of crates does not learn to settle in a normal home. We favor trainers who keep few dogs and train in realistic settings.
  • Training in the real world. Walks, public places, visitors and house rules, not only drills in one room.
  • You are part of it. Lessons at pickup and follow-up, so the results last once your dog is home.

Common questions

Can reactive dogs be trained?

Many improve a lot with a structured plan and consistent practice. Results depend on the dog, the cause and how well you keep up the work.

Is a reactive dog an aggressive dog?

Not necessarily. Reactivity is an emotional reaction to triggers and often comes from fear or frustration. A trainer will tell you how to handle yours safely.

Should I use a muzzle?

A muzzle can be a safe management tool if your dog has bitten or may bite. A trainer can teach you to condition your dog to wear one comfortably.

Do I need a vet first?

It is a good idea. Pain and medical issues can drive reactivity, and a vet can rule them out.

Is K9PN a dog training company?

No. K9PN is a referral service and does not train dogs. We pass your request to a professional trainer we work with who offers the kind of training you asked for and serves your area. It costs you nothing to send a request, and you decide whether to work with the trainer who calls you.
