Private 1-on-1 dog training

Private 1-on-1 dog training: find a trainer near you

In private training, a trainer works one-on-one with you and your dog, so every session fits your dog and your goals. You learn the handling yourself, which is why the results tend to stick. Tell K9PN where you live and we will connect you with a private trainer.

What private training covers

What you can work on in 1-on-1 sessions

Private sessions are flexible, so the plan follows your dog rather than a fixed class curriculum.

Puppy foundations

House training, crate habits, biting and the first manners that make every later step easier.

Leash walking and manners

Loose-leash walking, polite greetings, settling in public and the everyday skills that make a dog easier to live with.

Recall and reliability

Coming when called and staying under control around distractions, built in stages.

Behavior problems

Leash reactivity, barking, jumping, separation anxiety and resource guarding, with a plan that starts with the cause.

Handling skills for you

Timing, body language and consistency, because the person holding the leash is half of the training.

Real-life practice

Working in the places your dog actually struggles, not just in a quiet room.

How it works

From request to trainer in three steps

K9PN is a referral service. We do not train dogs. Trainers set their own prices and programs.

1. Tell us what you need

Share your dog's age and breed, whether you want board and train, 1-on-1 sessions or virtual training (Florida only for now), and where you live. It takes about two minutes and costs nothing.

2. We match you with a trainer

K9PN is a referral service. Based on what you need and where you live, we refer your request to a professional trainer who offers it.

3. The trainer calls you back

The trainer calls you to talk through your goals, pricing and scheduling. You decide whether it is a fit.

What a private session looks like

A first session usually starts with a conversation about your dog, your goals and what has and has not worked, then the trainer watches how your dog behaves and starts teaching you the first exercises. You get homework to practice between sessions, and the plan adjusts as your dog improves. Because it is one-on-one, the trainer can slow down, repeat or move ahead based on how your dog is doing.

Where sessions happen

It depends on the trainer. Some private sessions happen at your home, some at a dedicated training ground and some in public places where your dog needs to practice. Ask where sessions are held and whether that matches the situations that are a problem for your dog.

Private, group class or board and train?

FormatBest forYour involvement
Board and trainBusy owners, stubborn habits, a head start on foundationsYou learn the handling at pickup and keep it up at home
1-on-1 sessionsLearning to handle your dog yourself, behavior problems, puppiesYou attend every session and do the homework
Virtual trainingFoundations and everyday manners from home, flexible schedulesYou run each exercise on camera while the trainer coaches you

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on your dog's age, the goal and how consistently you practice. Foundations for a puppy and a long-standing behavior problem take very different amounts of time. Ask the trainer for a plan with the number of sessions, what each one covers and what happens if you need more, and get the price in writing.

How we match you with a trainer

K9PN is not a franchise and not a directory where anyone can pay to be listed. We refer dog owners to experienced, independent trainers, and we look at the things that decide whether training works in real life:

  • Real experience. How long the trainer has worked with dogs, what kinds of dogs and problems, and whether the person who trains your dog is the experienced trainer or a junior hire.
  • Where your dog actually lives. A dog that spends the program in a crowded kennel room or a stack of crates does not learn to settle in a normal home. We favor trainers who keep few dogs and train in realistic settings.
  • Training in the real world. Walks, public places, visitors and house rules, not only drills in one room.
  • You are part of it. Lessons at pickup and follow-up, so the results last once your dog is home.

Common questions

What is the difference between private training and a group class?

In a group class one trainer teaches several dogs and owners at once, which is good for socialization and practice around distractions. In private training the plan is built around your dog, and the trainer can focus entirely on your goals and problems.

Is private training better than board and train?

Neither is better for every dog. Private training puts you in charge from the start, so it is a good fit when you want to learn the handling or when your dog struggles away from home. Board and train gives a head start on foundations when you are busy.

Can private training help with behavior problems?

Often, yes. Many behavior problems like pulling, barking and reactivity respond well to one-on-one work. For aggression or a bite history, tell the trainer up front and expect a careful evaluation and possibly a vet check.

How much does private dog training cost?

Prices vary by trainer and by whether you buy single sessions or a package. Ask for a written price, what each session covers and what the package includes.

Is K9PN a dog training company?

No. K9PN is a referral service and does not train dogs. We pass your request to a professional trainer we work with who offers the kind of training you asked for and serves your area. It costs you nothing to send a request, and you decide whether to work with the trainer who calls you.
